Artist's Comments

Well, its a little less than half done. Ahah.

This was inspired by :icondavey-chan:'s random wizard pic. I'm happy with the lineart, but currently, i feel that the colouring is a bit too much for me to handle. Besides, i need to do many pictures over several weeks instead of two over several weeks. Hence, i'm putting this aside for now.

The one thing i've learnt from this is to define your background before you colour the initial piece. I did the cloak first, then added the background and realised that it hardly matched at all. Regardless, im satisfied for now.

Cheers :D

Oh, and the inside of his cloak isn't coloured. Ewps.

plot, what plot? I know you too well, kitty. ;P

The cloak was starting to turn out pretty cool. Hands seem a bit small for the perspective and size of the face.

So happy to see that you're doing art again!! Really great, keep more coming!

Yeah, i enjoyed sketching this due to the perspective of us looking up to him - made the feet hella hard and the face quite interesting. But anyway :P

About the cloak, do you think that perhaps the color of it didn't exactly suite the environment? I mean, it's obviously night and everything, so a bright red during daylight would turn to a deep purple-ish color with red highlights? I'd like to practice selecting colors that actually match the background, so any theorycrafting we do here will prolly go a long way :D

Apart from that, i suppose there isn't much else we can nitpick here. I'll just be glad a return picture after 2 years was so graceful :P

In regards to cloak and lighting, then you're right. If the setting is at night then it would have to be darker. The colors you have going on right now are fine for areas closest to the fire, but don't be afraid to get dramatic with lighting. Throw in deep colors, even black, and focus on light sources—like adding greenish highlights were the book casts light. Images with a lot of contrast are always the most stunning and universally agreed to be more interesting.

Yeah. I was planning to have alot of fun with the fire and book highlighting the surrounding areas, but alas, murgh :P Even black you say? Would i leave it as a solid black, or slowly blend into that?

btw  Thanks for being so helpful
